Things to know about Lake Weir High and its football team …
-Lake Weir averages 37.9 points per game and allows 25.1.
-Lake Weir is back in the playoffs for the second year in a row -- and second time in school history. For years, the Hurricanes had arguably the worst program in Central Florida.
-The Hurricanes have never won a district title.
-Lake Weir’s only losses are to North Marion (45-6) and Gainesville (55-24). Both of those teams are in the playoffs.
-The Hurricanes get most of their offense from Tracy Curry, whom the Ocala Star-Banner has referred to as the team’s “all-world quarterback.” According to Rivals.com, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior has scholarship offers from Central Florida and Florida Atlantic.
-Although the school often is referred to as Ocala Lake Weir, it actually is a few miles east of town in what is known as the Silver Springs Shores area.
-The school’s most famous alums are basketball stars/brothers Eddie and Frank Johnson (in photo), who led the program to national prominence in the early 1970s before each embarked on successful college and pro careers.
-One-time WWE Diva Amy Weber is a former Lake Weir student.
