Most high school athletes would be satisfied with Bernard Reedy's list of scholarship offers. But Reedy isn't content.

The Lakewood standout wants more.

"I've been starting since the ninth grade," Reedy said. "I've been progressing each year. Some of the people that are top-rated, I feel like I'm better than them. I feel I should have more (offers). I deserve more."

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior easily is among the region's most complete players, and he might be the most electrifying. Basically, he's the high school version of former Largo star Dexter McCluster, now an all-SEC player for Ole Miss who does a little bit of everything.

Reedy, who can play anything from running back to cornerback, has produced nearly 1,000 rushing yards this season, is averaging 25 yards per catch and has twice scored on kickoff returns.

Iowa is recruiting him as an athlete. Iowa State likes him at cornerback. Toledo sees him as a running back/receiver type.

All three have offered scholarships, along with Colorado State, Syracuse and Troy. Reedy claims there is no leader and has only officially visited Toledo, but his position preference may offer some clues as to which program will land him.

"I'm leaning toward offense," Reedy said.

Aside from the aforementioned schools, Reedy also gets regular mail from schools such as Alabama, Indiana, Purdue, Virginia and West Virginia.

Because of his similarities to McCluster, it's somewhat of a surprise Ole Miss, which recruits Florida hard, has not yet shown much interest. Reedy also is miffed that Florida State hasn't given him that much attention (Memo to FSU: He believes he could help as a receiver).

For now, Reedy, a Rivals.com three-star prospect, is staying patient. His focus is on the remainder of the season (Lakewood is headed to the playoffs). After that concludes, he will finish taking his visits, and yes, he plans to take all five.

"I think with all the things I do, the college I do choose will be glad I did," Reedy said.

SPONGER EARNS OFFER: Minnesota became the first school to offer a scholarship to Tarpon Springs junior OL Zach DeBell (6-7, 250) last week. DeBell anchors a line that has one back (Adrian Golden) with more than 1,000 rushing yards and another (Darius Daniels) who is getting close to that mark. "He's got a great upside," Spongers coach George Kotis said. "This is just the start."

DIGGING SOPHOMORES: This area's volleyball class of 2012 might have the state's two best sophomores in Berkeley Prep's Jordan Burgess and Lakewood's Berkley Whaley. Both outside hitters have drawn interest from a number of big-time schools, and not surprisingly it looks as if national power Florida is in the mix for both. Whaley said last week that the Gators are her current leader.
