Keswick Christian, with five girls in the top 22 in Thursday's Class A, District 5 meet at Taylor Park, put together its finest effort this season in claiming the title by a comfortable margin.
Everyone seemed impressed.
Well, everyone but the Crusaders’ top runner, Hannah Palm, who placed sixth.
“This is not our best,” Palm said matter-of-factly. “That’s still to come.”
According to Palm, Thursday’s race was the first time in a few weeks the Crusaders’ entire lineup has been healthy. Because of that, she thinks the team is just getting warmed up and expects even better showings at regionals (next Friday at the same course) and state (Nov. 21 in Dade City).
Keswick was ninth at state last year. Palm said a top-five finish is possible later this month.
Next year, she hopes the team can contend for a title.
The evidence suggests that just might happen. This year’s squad has no seniors.
Palm, by the way, is only a freshman.
