4A volleyball: Hudson ready for more after knocking off Zephyrhills

HUDSON — From start to finish Wednesday, there was no doubt in Hudson's 4A region quarterfinal victory over Zephyrhills.

To coach Shayna Munson, the win is the start of something special, as the Cobras rolled over the Bulldogs 25-14, 25-12, 25-20.

"It is satisfying, but we're not done," Munson said. "I don't feel pressure, the girls don't feel pressure. They just come out here and play."

Even with a shortage of "Cobra Crazies" in the stands with many of them starting practice for the boys basketball team, there was no shortage of big plays from either team in the first set.

The Bulldogs (19-6) led 12-11, but Cobras side hitter Jessica Imbimbo (seven kills) notched a key kill that led to five straight points for Hudson and propelled the Cobras to their 25-14 first-set victory.

The Cobras (22-3) cruised through the second set 25-12, but ran into trouble in the final set.

Down 23-17, Zephyrhills took a timeout then Bulldogs middle hitter Taylor Willis (six kills) answered with a kill to bring Zephyrhills within five.

But Imbimbo knocked in the final kill and thrust Hudson into the next round, where the Cobras will face Nature Coast in a region semifinal.
