East Lake senior left-hander Linzy Clark is the leader in the clubhouse at Day 1 of the Class 2A state tournament in Silver Springs Shores.
Those with early tee times are finishing their inaugural round of this 36-hole event. East Lake and Palm Harbor University, first and second, respectively, at last week's Region 4 tournament, are competing as full squads. Wharton's Paul Demick and Ridgewood's Austin Padova are here as individuals.
Clark, 1-over through his first three holes, finished with a 3-under 69 on an overcast, windy day here in Marion County. He ended his day with a birdie on the 585-yard, par-5 18th.
"I had two key chip-ins for birdie (on No. 6 and 12); that was probably the key to my round," said Clark, son of a former Innisbrook pro. "And I didn't hit any bad shots."
Eagles teammate Terry O'Reilly has come in with a 77. PHU's Charlie Camisasca (80) and Colby Norris (85) also are in the clubhouse.
Subtract a quadruple bogey on his fourth hole of the day, and Wharton junior Paul Demick is essentially blistering the course as well.
Demick, winner of last week's Region 4 tournament in Riverview, was 2-over through 11 holes despite a 7 on the 217-yard par-3 No. 13 hole. He began the day on No. 10, had a 3-over 39 at the turn, and birdied the par-4 No. 1 hole with a short putt on an elevated green.
